Surgery

Dr. Kurt S. Schulz, DVM
Diplomate American College of Veterinary Surgeons Dr. Kurt Schulz served for nine years as an Associate Professor of small animal surgery at the University of California, Davis, CA. He was Chief of Surgery at the UC Davis Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital for four years and the head of small animal orthopedic research.

He is a graduate of Cornell University and completed his residency at Virginia Tech. Dr. Schulz is a co-author of Small Animal Surgery, Small Animal Arthroscopy, and The Pet Lovers Guide to Joint Disease and Osteoarthritis and has published 65 peer reviewed scientific articles. He has also served on the veterinary faculty of Texas A&M University and was a veterinarian in the United States Peace Corps serving in the mountains and desert of Morocco. Dr. Schulz has served on the examination committee for the ACVS and is an international speaker on small animal surgery. He is currently leading an international program focused on Outcomes Measures and Evidence Based Medicine in small animal orthopedics. He lives in Burlington, Vermont with his wife and two young boys.

 

Physical Rehabilitation

Katie Cross, DVM, CCRP
Certified Canine Rehabilitation Practitioner
Dr. Cross earned her Bachelor of Science degree summa cum laude from the University of Vermont. She then attended Tufts University School of Veterinary Medicine. While at Tufts, she earned several academic excellence awards and was admitted to the prestigious Phi Zeta veterinary honor society. After graduating with her veterinary doctorate, Dr. Cross completed extensive training and national certification in canine physical rehabilitation through the University of Tennessee.

Dr. Cross worked for several years as a general practitioner in the Lakes Region of NH before moving back home to VT. She joined the Burlington Veterinary Specialists team in autumn 2008, serving as our physical rehabilitation specialist.

With a strong interest in pain management, Dr. Cross is a member of the International Veterinary Academy of Pain Management and the American Association of Rehabilitation Veterinarians.

 

Diagnostic Imaging

Dr. H. Mark Saunders, VMD, Diplomate American College of Veterinary Radiology Dr. Saunders graduated Cum Laude from the University of Pennsylvania, School of Veterinary Medicine in 1981. After two years as a large animal practitioner, he returned to Penn for a three-year radiology residency program. He completed his program and became a Diplomate in the American College of Veterinary Radiology in 1986. After completion of the residency, Dr. Saunders spent 17 years on the University of Pennsylvania faculty in the Dept. of Clinical Studies - Phila. as a lecturer, assistant professor and associate professor of radiology. He was Chief of the Section of Radiology from 1994 to 2002. He is past president of the Veterinary Ultrasound Society and American College of Veterinary Radiology. Dr. Saunders left the University of Pennsylvania in 2003 to start Lynks Group, PLC based in Shelburne, Vermont. Lynks Group provides imaging consultation, radiology locums, teleradiology and ultrasound services to small animal veterinary practitioners in northwestern New England and specialty referral hospitals in Montreal and Boston.
